Asam paste is known as tamarind paste. The herbs and spices used to make the curry are very diverse and are not limited to coriander, turmeric, pepper, chilli, paprika powder, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, mace flower, fennel, anise, koja laurel leaves, and cloves.
